Did you know that the history of the hamburger, a slice of ground beef sandwiched between two pieces of bun, began more than 130 years ago? While we can't attribute the pioneering to anyone in particular, because, as it happens, many people are credited as pioneers, we can say that there is a connection to Hamburg, Germany. In the 19th century, this port city became famous for the beef from cows reared by locals in the area. The meat was usually ground and seasoned and made into patties, which were then roasted over a fire. However, the hamburger itself, as we know it now, was invented and spread much later.
